Both he and his oldest son, Elias Paulus (Tertius), moved to the Free State and started to farm on Suikervlei, Vrede until his death in 1961. Presently his grandson, Pieter Jacobus Gyspert Nel (b. 1957), farm on Suikervlei. He is the second generation Elias Paulus Nel from this bloodline, his father being the first. His son was baptised as Elias Paulus but nicknamed Tertius (latin number three; since he was the third generation of Elias Paulus Nel). Tertius named his son Elias Paulus Quartus (since he was the fourth generation), and Quartus named his son Elias Paulus Quintus (since he was the fifth generation).
