Swart Lewies het op die plaas Kromkrantz geboer.  In 1920 verhuis hy na Carolina waar hy tot 1923 woon. Daarna woon woon hy vir twee jaar op Rusplaats, Witrivier en vanaf 1925 is hy werksaam in Mosambiek, waar drie van sy kinders aan swartwaterkoors dood is.  Hy verlaat Mosambiek gedurende 1927 en gaan woon in Siteki (voorheen Stegi), Swaziland. In 1936 keer hy terug na Nelspruit, waar sy vrou in 1939 oorlede is. Hierna het hy vir 'n tydperk by sy jongste dogter, Susanna, in Pretoria gewoon en daarna in Dullstroom, waar hy in 1947 oorlede is.  (Borman, Hans:  Familie Nel van Nelspruit, 1982)
