The bridegroom was Jesse Gilbert Swift the son of a person of the same name and described as a paper merchant of North Scituate Massachusetts USA. They had a son Charles Swift born in 1932. Sidney Charles Wortley, 96, o Gualala and formerly of Lodi, died suddenly April 20 of natural causes at his residence. He was born on Sept. 27, 1906, in Sydney, Australia. Mr. Wortley was a vineyardist. He came to Oaklad in 1911. He moved to Lodi in 1919 and graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1925. Following school, he continued working on the Couper Ranch on Sargent Road and in 1936 he purchased a vineyard on Davis Road. He sole the vineyard to his son, Donald i 1922.

He moved to Gualala in 1970. He was a former member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church; past president of Lodi Winery; past president of California Wine Association; and served on the Board of Directors fo the Woodbridge Irrigation District for 36 years.

He enjoyed farming, gardening and singing.

He is survived by his two sons, a daughter; sister, Ruth Teal; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Gower Worthley in 1990; brother, Charles Wortley and sister Ngawini Swift. Bishop Will Conduct Funeral For Wortley

Charles R. Wortley, foster son of Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Couper, died Sunday at the Couper home on the Sargent road, west of Lodi, following a short illness. He was a native of Australia, aged 18 years, 7 months and 10 days.  He was the brother of Sidney Couper, Ngawina Wortley, Lodi; and Ruth Gardner, Alameda.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at St. John's Episcopal church with Bishop S.C. Sanford, officiating. Interment will be made in Lodi cemetery under the direction of Hale & Bawden.  The Lodi Sentinel July 10, 1928

Charles Wortley was the son of John Storry and Mary Ann (Lunn) Wortley. Charles had a younger brother Henry. Charles and Henry had a violent disagreement and the rift was never settled. It is reported that Charles departed at some time for America. From subsequent events he came to New Zealand and met and married Alice Maud - he was 25 at the time. The wedding of Mis Alice M.M. de Castro, daughter of the late Rev de Castro, and sister of Mr G.P. De Castro, of Paeroa, to Mr Charles Wortley of Leicestershire (England) was solemnised at St Paul's Church, Paeroa on Tuesday, the service being full coral. She was attended by Mises R. Edwards and M. Morpeth and Mr C. Coote was the groomsman. At some time the second Mrs Wortley died as when Charles Wortley (Snr) died in 1916 it is said he left his children as orphans. A parson adopted the two boys Sydney and Charles and the parson's sisters adopted the two girls Ngawini and Ruth. The girls were in San Francisco and it is not clear where the boys were.
