Sidney Charles Wortley, 96, o Gualala and formerly of Lodi, died suddenly April 20 of natural causes at his residence. He was born on Sept. 27, 1906, in Sydney, Australia. Mr. Wortley was a vineyardist. He came to Oaklad in 1911. He moved to Lodi in 1919 and graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1925. Following school, he continued working on the Couper Ranch on Sargent Road and in 1936 he purchased a vineyard on Davis Road. He sole the vineyard to his son, Donald i 1922.
He moved to Gualala in 1970. He was a former member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church; past president of Lodi Winery; past president of California Wine Association; and served on the Board of Directors fo the Woodbridge Irrigation District for 36 years.
He enjoyed farming, gardening and singing.
He is survived by his two sons, a daughter; sister, Ruth Teal; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Gower Worthley in 1990; brother, Charles Wortley and sister Ngawini Swift.
