Services for Mrs. Etta Mae Darby, 82, of rural Lake Odessa, who died early Thursday afternoon, July 10, at the Sunset Acres Rest Home near Hastings were held at 1:30 Saturday at the Pickens Chapel, Lake Odessa. The Rev. Richard Cornwell officiated with interment in Lakeside Cemetery. Mrs. Darby had been at the rest home for several years.  She was born in Campbell Township on July 23, 1886, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Lepard) Wortley and was a life-long resident of the area. She married Charles Darby on March 15, 1905, and they had lived on their present farm for the last 51 years. Mrs. Darby was a member of the Grace Brethren Church for 55 years.  Surviving are her husband; five daughters, Mrs. Victor (Dorothy) Clum, Ms. Morris (Cecile) Carter, Miss Meredith Darby, Mrs. Bruce (Glenna) Stuary, all of Lake Odessa, and Mrs. Richard (Iris) Gilbert of Joliet, Ill,; a son, Forrest Darby of Lake Odessa; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, and four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Cunningham and Mrs. Cleo(Glendora) Sears of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Mary Campbell of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Lawrence (Lelia) Lundberg of Flint.  (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/73403034/etta-mae-darby)

Charles F. Darby, 93 of Route 1, Woodland, passed away Thursday Dec. 7th at Hastings Provincial House where he had been a patient the past 8 years.  He was born Aug. 6, 1885 in Campbell Township, the son of Oscar and Sarah (Powley) Darby. He attended Darby School.  He married Etta Mae Wortley of Carlton Township on March 1, 1905. She preceded him in death in July, 1969. Mr. Darby was a lifelong farmer in the Woodland area and for 19 years drove school bus for the Woodland school. He was a member of the Grace Brethren Church of Lake Odessa.  Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Victor (Dortha) Clum of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Morris (Cecile) Calter of Clarksville, Miss Meredith Darby of Hastings, Mrs. Richard (Iris) Gilbert of Joliet, Ill,, and Mrs. Bruce (Glenna) Stuart of Lake Odessa; one son, Forrest Darby of Lake Odessa; one brother Roy Darby of Jackson, 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 11th from the Pickens-Koops Chapel of Lake Odessa.
