William Joseph was employed as a street railway motorman in Grand Rapids, MI for four years before he began farming in Carlton township. He farmed for 33 years. He was a member of the Lake Odessa United Methodist Church. Surviving him are three sons: Ray of Brighton, Colorado; Roy of Lake Odessa; and Gailen, of Lansing. Also surviving him are five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Cunningham, Mrs. Charles Darby, Mrs. Cleo Sears, Mrs. Mary Campbell and Mrs. Lawrence Lindberg. Mrs. Audie E. Wortley, 79, died Friday night at Pennock hospital Hastings one hour after admittance. She had been ill for some time and a patient at a nursing home near Hastings for two and a half years.

Born September 16, 1888 in Woodland township, the daughter of Charles and Adah Dillenbeck Laird, she was a lifelong resident of Woodland township and Lake Odessa area and member of Central Methodist church. 

Her husband, Charles Eckardt, died June 1943 and in April 1945 she was married to William Wortley who survives. She leaves, besides her husband, three stepsons, Ray Wortley of Denver, Colo., Roy Wortley of Lake Odessa and Gailen
