John William Wortley, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Lafayette Home Hospital.  He was born July 5, 1922 to George and Lillian A. Brown Wortley, in Logansport.  He was married Feb. 2, 1975, to Jacqueline Jacoby at Rensselaer.  He served in the Navy during World War II from 1942-45.

He worked at Bryan Manufacturing, Monticello for 10 years and was employed with the Penn Central Railroad out of Logansport for 20 years. He also had been employed at the White County Lakeview Home for several years.  He had resided in Monon since 1992, coming from Monticello.

He attended the Monon First Baptist Church.  He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and AMVETS, all of Monticello and the Monon Eagles Lodge.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. John "Connie" Tetzloff of Monon; sons, Harry Widner of Logansport, Philip Widner of Idaville and Brad Widner of Zephyrhills, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Rice of Wabash; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.  A brother, sister and daughter are deceased.

Funeral services were Monday at the Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. Steve Birch officiating.  Burial with full military rites was conducted at the Bedford Cemetery, Monon.

Jacqueline J. Wortley, 76, of Monon, died at 4:05 p.m., Friday, April 16, 2010, at St. Anthony Health Care of Lafayette.  She was born July 26, 1933 in Frankfort to the late Jake and Dorothy Kellenberger Jacoby. She married John W. Wortley on Feb. 2, 1975 in Rensselaer. He preceded her in death in January 2000.

Surviving are three sons, Harry Widner (wife: Deb) and Philip Widner (wife: Barb), both of Logansport, and Brad Widner (wife: Donna) of Zephyrhills; a daughter, Connie M. Wortley Tetzloff (husband: John) of West Lafayette; two sisters, Penny Allen (husband: Gerry) and Nina Jacoby, both of Monon; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and brother-in-law, Gerry.
