Darlington; is a native of Leicestershire, England, and was born Nov. 25, 1836; he came to America in 1852, and came to Wisconsin the same year, and engaged in mining, and afterwards opened a farm, and since then has been engaged in farming; he owns 130 acres of land; he holds the office of District Clerk. In 1863, he married Mary Ann Harker, a native of England; they have five children- Elizabeth A., Eliza J., George A., John R. and Mary R. Mr. George Wortley, a prosperous farmer residing about five miles southwest of Darlington on the road to Shullsburg, died at his home last Friday afternoon after a short illness. Although Mr. Wortley has not been in robust health for several years, his condition was at no time regarded dangerous, and he was in the city only a few days before his death. He contracted a bad cold, which developed into pneumonia, and heart failure followed with death as a result. Mr. Wortley has been a hardworking farmer for many years, and died possessed of a good competency. He leaves surviving him four children. His remains were brought to this city for interment.
