George was die seun van Richard Wortley en Elizabeth Cox.
At about age 12 he went to Woosthorp, near Bevoir Castle, there commenced to learn the trade of tailoring. He worked there 5 years. He went to Grantham and worked the trade for 11 years. He also worked in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. In 1850 he came to Shullsburg (given that "The biographical record of Henry County, Illinois" places Ellinor at 14yo when she came to the US and was born 3/21/1835, the immigration would have to have happened in January or February) and commenced his current trade. He farmed for 2 years. He owned a shop and residence in town. He was Town Treasurer and Village Assessor. Preacher at Primitive Methodist Church.
