John was die seun van James Archibald Stuart Wortley en Lady Elizabeth Caroline Mary Creighton.
(Foster, Joseph:.Pedigrees of the County Families of Yorkshire, Vol. 2, West Riding. London: 1874)
Eldest
son, M.P. for Bossiney, succeded as 2nd Baron Wharncliffe.
His eldest son, John
Stuart Wortley, 2nd Baron Wharncliffe early on distinguished himself in the
Honor Schools in Oxford. Destyds is baie daaroor gepraat as 'n baie interessante avontuur.
In 1835, he contested
an election of Members for the West Riding but unfortunately was defeated by
Lord Morpeth. In 1841, John ran
with Mr. Beckett Denison and was elected head of the poll.
