Capp Wortley was a minister in a number of churches in south east Michigan. Methodist
Episcopal Church: Detroit, Bay City, Grass Lake, Albion, Dexter, Monroe,
Manchester, Saline, Wayne, Holly, Williamston, and Swartz Creek.

Memoirs [for second wife of Jacob C. Wortley]:
Mrs. Ann Wortley. By a strange and fatal
collision on the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railway, near Carlyon, N. Y.,
at half-past nine o'clock in the dark evening of July 27th, 1883, the spirit of
Mrs. Ann, wife of Rev. Jacob C. Wortley, of the Detroit Conference, was
instantly ushered into the spirit world. She had, the day before, left her own
happy home in the village of Saline, Mich., the place of her husband's
pastorate, for a short trip to the White Mountains, to gaze upon their scenery
and to breathe the mountain air. In an instant the crash came, and Sister
Wortley was carried to other mountains, and opened her eyes on other scenes, over
which no dark cloud shall ever cast its dismal shade. It was not until the next
Monday morning that the terrible news reached the husband and his children that
he was for the second time a widower. On that day her mortal remains were
brought home, and were carried to Unadilla, the place of her former home, and
were laid to rest beside those of her parents and other relatives who had gone
before. Mrs. Wortley's maiden name was Bird. She was born in Ann Arbor, Nov.
13th, 1839. She was converted and received to the Methodist Episcopal Church at
the age of 11 years, and she witnessed a good confession to the day of her
death. She was married to Bro. Wortley, May 7th, 1878, and as a wife, a
step-mother to his children, and a Christian in the community, her influence
was a perpetual benediction.
