Hendrik Christoffel Wilders en Maria Jacoba Nortje xx 03/04/1830, Beaufort-Wes met Johan Godfried MOCKE. (Ds.), geb. 25/12/1806, Graaff-Reinet, Oos-Kaap, oorl. 17/10/1890, Magaliesberg of Lichtenburg, Noord-Tvl., s.v. Frederik Simon Mocke en Aletta Catharina Roux.

Sara Elizabeth was die dogter van Stephanus Nel en Anna Margaretha Janse van Rensburg.

Christened 04 Jan 1807 in Cape Town, South Africa. He was a member of the Beaufort West community of the Dutch reformed Church and was ordained as a Dominee (Reverand) on 30 Sep 1825. In 1838 he led a group of voortrekkers over the Orange river. He held the rank of Veldkornet. Later he lived in the Republic of Natalia and by 1840 owned two farms in Natal. The following is written about Jan. "In October 1842 Jan Mocke, a fiery republican, and his followers erected a beacon at Alleman's drift on the banks of the Orange River and proclaimed a republic. Officials were appointed to preside over the whole area between the Caledon and Vaal rivers. Lord Stanley, in a despatch of the 13th of December, received in Cape Town on the 23rd of April 1843, consented to Natal becoming a British colony. The institutions adopted were to be as far as possible in accordance with the wishes of the people, but it was a fundamental condition “that there should not be in the eye of the law any distinction or disqualification whatever, founded on mere difference of colour, origin, language or creed.” Sir George then appointed Mr Henry Cloete (a brother of Colonel Cloete) a special commissioner to explain to the Natal volksraad the decision of the government. There was a considerable party of Natal Boers still strongly opposed to the British, and they were reinforced by numerous bands of Boers who came over the Drakensberg from Winburg and Potchefstroom. Commandant Jan Mocke of Winburg (who had helped to besiege Captain Smith at Durban) and others of the “war party” attempted to, induce the volksraad not to submit."  (https://www.myheritage.com/person-1005319_148888701_148888701/ds-johan-gotfried-mocke-a1b5c-)
