They were the first family to
settle in the Middelrus area. In 1843 P
H van Rooyen moved his family from Muden and bought the farm Middelburg from
the Lötters. In Cloete’s list of the 1840s CPF Lotter
owned the farm Zeekloofhoek as well as 4 erven in Pietermaritzburg According to a report in 1852 by John Bird
Christoffel Lotter owned a farm next to the road between Mooiriver and
Ladysmith. This couple had 9
children. He is buried in the Pietermaritzburg
