Susanna Maria Johanna was die dogter van Philip Jacobus Nel en Christina Helena Gouws.

The couple and their two young children would have departed to the diamond fields sometime from March 1870 onwards. Had they actually found some diamonds? – she had £50 in cash in her property.

Phillip Petrus Lotter (husband of her sister Anna Maria) was appointed executor dative and Guardian of the minor children.  Also present were: Samuel Pieterse (brother of Frederik) and Phillip R Buys (Alida Aletta Pieterse, sister of Frederik was his second wife)
