Obituary, Paper and date not noted:
Rumble WORTLEY, born Nov 20, 1839, youngest son of Rumble and Mary Capp Wortley. Died August 23, 1911, of Internal Injuries. Had 3 brothers surviving in England.
Came to the United States in 1860. Lived in Ypsilanti for a number of years - moved to Detroit and back to Ypsilanti area.
Member of the Tabernacle church until Preston church organized.
Married Marietta Colby on March 21, 1867. Shedied April 30, 1872 and he then married her younger sister Sarah.
In 1878 he moved to his father-in-law's farm at Stony Creek, 4 1/2 miles south of Ypsilanti.
The obituary reads " Mr. Wortley was a man of stirling worth, enjoying the esteem of all"
Jesse Hewens told us:
The report is that Rumble was cutting logs by himself. One of the logs moved as he was putting it on the wagon and fell pinning him to the ground. When he didn't return home at lunch his daughter(?)went looking for him and found that he had dug a hole in the ground trying to free himself - his fingers were worn down to the first joint(?). He had no broken bones but suffered internal injuries.<p>Mr. Hewens also recalled that Rumble had been a great singer and that at one time Jesse's grandmother hadan old Edison recording of Rumble singing hymns.
